This year's "Kathina" - Robes offering ceremony will be conducted with the support, sponsorships, and the participation of all in locally and internationally with the special sponsorship of Mr. Rusiru and Mrs. Kanchana Gunasena family.

If you would like to sponsor robes, alms, or other gifts for monks and nuns, or if you would like to invoke blessings to you, to your family or to loved ones, and in memory of your departed loved ones, please call or write to the temple

Lunar 7th Month Ullambana Festival

一件善举,不分大或小,能够影响和改变一个和其他人的一生。

農曆七月是
【佛吉祥日、佛歡喜日、盂蘭盆會】

佛歡喜日,乃源自於佛在世時的印度,每逢夏天雨季來臨,所有僧侶皆不外出托缽,專心修持,此稱為「結夏安居」。 經過三個月的時間,到了安居結束之日,所有僧眾便一一把自己的修行體悟向佛陀報告,因為有不少精進的僧眾在結夏安居期間用功修行而開悟,令世尊非常歡喜。

如果能夠供養開悟或有修有證的僧眾,不僅是殊勝難得的因緣,所得到的功德也非常廣大。因此,大多數的寺廟會在這一天供佛、齋僧,並依據《盂蘭盆經》所載而啟建「盂蘭盆法會」。

盂蘭盆法會是以大目犍連尊者度母因緣為緣起,目犍連尊者曾依佛陀所囑為救度母親而於此日齋僧,為解一切眾生之倒懸,度脫無始以來的亡靈有情、父母親眷,令其得以福德增長、善根漸成、法緣完滿,乃至成就菩提…。

沿傳至今,佛弟子恪遵佛制,舉辦盂蘭盆法會,打齋供僧,以此功德回向現世父母消災延壽,七世父母得以脫離惡道。

我们讲举办7天的诵经法会,希望大家能踊跃地参加这个一年一度的法会。

Pattidana – Sharing of Merits

Gratitude towards the departed relatives

“Pattidana” means transferring/sharing of merits, positive energies(Punna). In this practice, one should perform meritorious deeds with pure and undefiled thoughts so that merits, positive energies(Punna) could be transferred/shared to ancestors and dear departed relatives who may have been reborn in lower existences (as hungry ghosts), (peta). In the Anguttara Nikaya, it is mentioned that parents wish for transference/sharing of merits from the children, once they are gone. And other relatives, friends as well they wish that their loving relatives and friends may transfer merits wishing them peace and happiness after they gone making their next existence happy and blissful one.

Wishing you a meaningful, blessed, holy Vesak day.

Commemorating and remembering the birth, the enlightenment, and the passing away of the greatest teacher and the leader that ever lived - lord Buddha, and his valuable compassionate service to the mankind.

During this epidemic, the Covid-19, we understand the danger and the difficulty of the situation. Instead of spreading panic, let's be mindful, have compassion and forgiveness. Let's have peace, patience, courage and determination to get us through these difficult times. Let's appreciate those who are dedicating their time and putting themselves on danger to serve the people who are affected. Let's respect and follow the expert advice, rules and regulations to keep you, your family and your loved ones safe.

Kathina 2020

Kathina 2020 ceremony will be held on 7th and 8th of November at the Kentucky Buddhist vihara, promoting 2600 years of great tradition. loving-kindness, compassion, peace and wisdom. We cordially invite you to participate and contribute to the event to make it a success.

Hope you all are doing well and safe. I would be happy to let you all know that I’m back at the temple now and trying to setup and reorganizing things that had been affected and delayed due to Corona virus out braked. And we are planning open the the temple and start our regular compassionate services for the community according to the state rules and regulations soon and we will let you know that soon. 

According to the tradition temple monk planning to Start this year Rainy Retreat Observance with the “Nikini full moon Poya day (August 03, 2020), 

And next month (August 02, 2020) Sunday morning 11am to 01pm we are planning have an official invitation for monk to observe the Rainy Retreat. Due to Corona virus situation we are not planning to invite a crowd here but according the state rules and regulation some of you may come and participate for this important time and event.        

Due to Corona virus situation our temple daily, monthly, activities, programs, fundraising events were badly affected. Also we did not have any savings left. Some of the bills our generous, compassionate members already paid but still there are lot of bills loan payments past due and should be taking care of as soon as possible. 

There is a major financial problems with our temple mortgage loan and some other bills due to Corona virus epidemic three month of our mortgage payment past due and we have to pay that full amount before end of this month (July 31, 2020). At this point the monthly Temple mortgage $1,100 plus utilities, plus insurance, telephone, internet, food, medicine, transportation, temple car repairs totals almost over $2,000 per month.

It is a struggle to pay the monthly bills and now this past due mortgage payments & other bills are extra financial obligation. If possible please kindly consider a contribution of any amount that is comfortable for your budget to lesser the load. There is always a tax deduction for donations given to the Temple since we are 501-C organization.

Dear friends and devotees, Annual Kathina ceremony at the Kentucky Buddhist Vihara will be held at Kentucky Buddhist temple on 9th and 10th of November. 

  • 9th November (Saturday) - 05:00pm - 10:00pm (Special pirith chanting event)
  • 10th November (Sunday) - 07:00am - 03:00pm (Kathina celebration)

You can contribute to the event by bringing the following suggested food items. If you prefer to bring other items, you are welcome to do so. 

Note: KMCBV kindly requests you to limit all items to vegetarian dishes.
